Conflicts of interest arise when foundation roles intersect outside roles, creating the potential for foundation insiders to benefit from the foundation in a personal, direct, or economic way. The benefit or potential for benefit can lead to biased decisions and unethical behavior, or the appearance of such, thus putting the foundation’s reputation at risk.
