Did you know that private foundations can make grants to nearly any organization for charitable purposes?

By following a set of procedures known as expenditure responsibility, private foundations can make grants to other private foundations, foreign organizations, for-profit corporations, social welfare organizations (e.g., volunteer fire departments), and nearly any other organization—as long as the grants are for charitable purposes and follow all other legal guidelines.
