At foundations of all types – family, independent, community, or corporate – there are conversations around bringing new perspectives to your board. Once you’ve considered why you want to bring new voices into your organization (e.g. term limits, retirement, next gen and/or community involvement), there’s the parallel work of orienting the new members and preparing the current board and staff to let go. An organization’s culture shifts when the group’s composition shifts. When new trustees or staff engage in the foundation’s work, they bring the desired new skills, experience, and perspectives; they also naturally bring a shift in the foundation’s culture. We’ll discuss what inclusion looks like to allow these new perspectives room and voice in your work.
By the end of this module participants will be able to:
- Become familiar with how to bring in new perspectives to your foundation board in an intentional way
- Comprehend how to create a positive and inclusive foundation culture for new board members
