If your foundation has staff, regular staff evaluation is a hallmark of excellent governance and a key responsibility of the board of directors. It’s also a good opportunity to open lines of communication between board and staff, establish shared goals, and improve your operations—from grantmaking to administration to investments.

At its core, CEO evaluation involves two basic steps: defining the CEO’s job responsibilities and checking back at a later point to determine if the responsibilities were met.
